Spare Time II

We are a non-profit child care organization that offers quality affordable before and after school care for children attending Sir Wilfred Laurier Main Elementary School and Annex. Our goal is to provide a safe, fun environment that encourages and challenges children to try new things.

Each day, children at Spare Time II may choose from a selection of programs and activities. In addition to the daily program schedule, we have homework club, arts & craft projects, organized cooperative games and sports, free play and educational workshops. We also have designated areas for a library, video games/computers and more.

On all field trips, children are well supervised and ride in our Variety Club vans and buses driven by qualified, licensed class 4 drivers.

The monthly fee includes all program activities and field trips, as well as nutritious lunches and snacks.

DESCRIPTION
Juniors Program: Grades K-3 Our centre provides many age appropriate outlets for play and fun specifically geared for Grades K-3.
Leaders Program: Grades 4-7 Spare Time II takes pride in our Leaders’ Club Programs developed for Grades 4-7. These programs focus on skill learning, knowledge building, personal responsibility and increased independence.
Morning Program: Grades K-7 Early birds who attend Spare Time II can play games and do puzzles, arts & crafts or homework. Breakfast is available from 7:30-8:30 am for a nominal fee. 
Holidays During holiday breaks, Pro D days and district closures our centre is open Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with lunch and snacks provided.

    Included in Monthly Fee:

    Instructional Days: Tues, September 6, 2022 to Thurs, June 29, 2023.

    Full day care for Kindergarten gradual entry in September is not available, (care is 7:30-9am , 3-6 pm)  regular monthly fees apply.

    Non-Instructional Days: 6, plus 4 early dismissals (2 pm) related to Parent-Teacher conferences.

    All programs will be closed on Thursday June 30th for summer preparations.

    Winter and Spring Breaks are not included in monthly rates. Payment is IN ADDITION TO regular monthly fees.

    Please note that Spare Time II, Spare Time Challenge Club and Spare Time Bobolink may not be open if minimum enrollment is not reached for this period; in which case care for all families will be available at Spare Time Clubhouse.

    Spring Break 2023 (Register Weekly):

    Week 1:  Monday March 15 – Friday March 19 

    Week 2:  Monday March 22 – Friday March 26 

    Fee: $320.00 per week /Kindergarten $286.00 per week

    Subsidy

    A subsidy is available for those who qualify from the Ministry Of Children and Family Development. There will be additional fees for district closure days, winter break and spring break.


    Each day, children at Spare Time II may choose from a variety of programs and activities. 

    Morning Program

    Early birds who attend Spare Time II can play games, do puzzles, draw or read. Breakfast is available from 7:30 am to 8:00 am. After 8:40 am there is school supervision outside. If you would like your child to stay inside, please inform the centre staff.

     

    Snack

    Snack is provided, Monday – Friday at 3:05 pm. Fruit or veggies are served daily along with many choices including muffins, cookies, cheese & crackers, soup, buns and much more!

    Computer/Video Games

    To ensure every child gets a turn, we have a daily schedule posted.

    Gym & Outdoor Activities

    Everyday we offer children in our program a variety of activities in the gym or outdoors to foster an active, healthy lifestyle. Tennis, basketball, baseball, organized co-operative games and challenges are some of the activities we do for fun, teamwork and skills development. With direct access to our beautiful playground and tennis courts, we also play there regularly during free time.

    Homework Club

    Spare Time staff is available Monday through Thursday to help children with their homework between 3:30 – 4:00 pm. It is the children’s responsibility to bring and complete their homework. For those who are interested, we also provide age appropriate worksheets. We have a “star chart” and incentive program to keep everyone motivated!

    Exciting Winter Break, Spring Break and Summer Holiday programs are offered and a separate schedule will be available. There will be an extra charge for these programs.

    Registration

    The Centre Supervisor will confirm if there is a space for your child, then you will be asked to fill out and submit your forms electronically.


    Our Programs

    While each centre offers a wide variety of individualized programs on a daily basis, here is a short overview of the programs offered at our centres:

    Morning Care (Before School Care)

    The centres open at 7:30 a.m. and close when the school day begins. Children are involved in quiet activities for the first hour and breakfast is available for a nominal fee. After 8:30 a.m., children may choose to play outside or take part in school-related activities.

    After School Care

    This program operates from school dismissal to 6:00 p.m., and from 7:30am to 6:00pm on non-instructional days and school breaks. Children are encouraged to participate in a wide variety of activities that are designed to nurture their social, emotional, intellectual and physical development.

    Spare Time Leaders Clubs

    Children 9 to 12 years old may participate in the Leaders Club at their centre. This program is designed in part by the children themselves and it is designed to challenge their intellectual, physical and creative skills while building independence and self-esteem.

    Spare Time Supported Development

    Our integrated programs operate in conjunction with all our other programs. Specially trained staff work with the children on an individual basis to guide them through activities and to ensure that their need for creative, stimulating and fun experiences are met.
